The Green Bay Packers rocked the NFL this week, pulling off a blockbuster trade with the Dallas Cowboys for Micah Parsons. With that move, the Packers are now even more on the map as a potential Super Bowl contender.

Parsons, who has been a star in every phase of his football career, is ready for a fresh start. His former head coach from his time in college with the Penn State Nittany Lions, James Franklin, spoke out with his reaction to the trade.

Interestingly enough, Franklin was also on the Green Bay coaching staff in 2005 as a wide receivers coach.

Franklin spoke out about Parsons as a player and also delivered his thoughts on the Packers trading for him. He’s clearly a fan of how the former Nittany Lions star will fit with his new team.

“He’s a dynamic player, [the Cowboys] drafted him for a reason and now obviously the Packers made a trade for him for a reason,” Franklin said. “He’s been one of the most disruptive players since he stepped into the NFL and we expect that to continue. One of the best competitors I’ve ever been around and I’m just happy for his family.”

He also compared Green Bay to Penn State as well.

“It’s a lot like Happy Valley — State College, Pennsylvania. Very much a college-like town and I think he’s gonna thrive there,” Franklin said.

Obviously, the Packers feel the same way. Parsons is expected to change everything about their outlook moving forward.

In order to acquire Parsons, Green Bay had to give up a lot. Brian Gutekunst traded away two first-round picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. He also paid Parsons handsomely, giving him a massive four-year, $188 million contract.

While it’s an aggressive swing from the Packers, Franklin and almost every other fan and analyst is confident that Parsons will bring elite talent to Green Bay. It’s a move that could bring a championship back to Lambeau Field at some point in the near future.

Fans should get their first look at Parsons with the Packers on September 7 when they take on the NFC North division rival Detroit Lions.
