A new suspect has been identified and arrested in connection with a Hesperia home murder from May of this year.
San Bernardino County deputies arrested Jovany Bahena, 35, of Apple Valley, at a residence in his hometown on Friday — making him the second suspect arrested for the May 23 shooting death of 27-year-old Hesperia resident Blake Rutledge.
Around 6:14 a.m. on May 23, deputies responded to reports of shots fired at a home 16000 block of Sequoia Street in Hesperia to find Rutledge suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The gunman, along with several others, had fled the area after the shooting.
Detectives later identified Ermes Bustamante, 37, of Victorville, as the primary suspect. A week later, on May 30, authorities tracked Bustamante down and took him into custody.
Almost exactly three months later, deputies arrested and booked Bahena at the High Desert Detention Center, also booking him for murder. His bail was set at $1 million.
Further details, including the motive behind the shooting and how the suspect and victim were known to each other, were not released.
