Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes were hoping to get off to a strong start to the 2025 college football season with a matchup at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
Unfortunately, those hopes were dashed. Sanders and company ended up losing to the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 27-20. It was a tough loss to begin the post-Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter era.
Late in the game on the final drive, Sanders made a costly error. He allowed priceless seconds to tick away that left him with very little time to put together a game-tying drive to close out regulation.
Following that clock management mistake, Sanders has received some major criticism.

Former Alabama star quarterback AJ McCarron spoke out about the situation. He even urged Sanders to look into hiring someone to help him with that aspect of the game.
“The other concern for me for Colorado was clock management at the end,” McCarron said. “It was awful clock management. You complete a pass and then you don’t call timeout — you’ve got two timeouts! … I thought they cost themselves a chance to at least tie the game and extend it and go into overtime.”
After that statement, McCarron dropped the bomb urging Sanders to make a new hire to help fix the problem.
“Hire somebody that helps you do clock management,” he said.
He makes a good point. Had Sanders managed the clock better from the sideline, it’s possible that the Buffaloes would have had a chance to tie the game. We will never know if that could have happened or not.

Colorado is expected by many to struggle this season. Losing both Sanders and Hunter, along with a few other key players, will be tough to bounce back from quickly. Sanders has his work cut out for him in 2025.
Losing to Georgia Tech was a tough way to start the season, but the Buffaloes can’t dwell on the loss. They simply need to focus on coming back strong in Week 2.
Speaking of Week 2, Colorado will face off against Delaware on September 6. That game needs to be a win for the Buffaloes and Sanders to get back on track.
