PHOENIX — A planned $2 billion semiconductor packaging and testing facility is being relocated within one West Valley city, officials announced Thursday.

Tempe-based Amkor is now planning to build its state-of-the-art facility on a 104-acre site within a more than 800-acre parcel of state land that the city of Peoria won in an Arizona State Land Trust auction on Wednesday for $46.7 million.

The new site is located just northwest of the Loop 303 and Lake Pleasant Parkway.

The company had originally planned to build on a 56-acre site not far away in the Five North at Vistancia community near the Loop 303 and Lone Mountain Parkway.

The move was made due to increased market demands and a larger project scope, which required Amkor to need more space, according to a press release from the city.

“By securing this land and adopting these agreements, we are paving the way for our partnership with Amkor, which represents a $2 billion investment in our city that will create 2,000 high-quality jobs,” Peoria mayor Jason Beck said in the release.

Construction is expected to begin on the first phase of Amkor’s new facility in September. Phase one, which includes a processing facility and several other additional structures, is scheduled to be completed in late 2027.

HonorHealth campus coming to Amkor’s original location

The city of Peoria also announced new plans for the location where Amkor had originally planned to build in the Five North at Vistancia community.

HonorHealth signed a letter of intent with the city to build an 8-acre medical campus that will include primary, urgent and concierge healthcare, according to the release. The company is also getting the rights to a second 8-acre parcel to allow for future expansion.

“As a healthcare leader with deep roots in the Valley, we’re proud to deepen our connection with the residents of Peoria by bringing expanded access to high-quality care,” HonorHealth CEO Todd LaPorte said in a press release.

Final agreements for the campus and a Peoria City Council vote will take place in late 2025 or early 2026.

Western Maricopa Education Center, also known as West-MEC, will also build a 5- to 7-acre campus in Five North at Vistancia. It will focus on medical education, but will also have space for students to learn about trade careers.

West-MEC is a public school district that is dedicated to teaching high school students and young adults about technical trade careers.

The final plan for the new West-MEC campus is expected to be voted on by the Peoria City Council by the end of this year.
