On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys ended the Micah Parsons contract standoff by trading the star pass rusher to the Green Bay Packers, shaking up the NFC North.

The Athletic reported the Cowboys will receive defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round picks in return. One insider believes the Chicago Bears were right not to make a bold move like the Packers did for Parsons.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune was on 670 The Score and applauded the Bears’ front office for not making a deal for Parsons or any other type of trade that could be considered swinging for the fences, as the team isn’t currently at that stage.

“You can’t talk about the left tackle situation and make note of some of these other roster areas that are going to need help, and propose that it’s a grand idea to start trading off future first-round draft picks and whatever else,” Briggs said on “Mully & Haugh.”

“Parsons, he’s a phenomenal player. The Bears were 10th in the league in money committed to edge rushers at $40 million this season. They would have been first by $20, $25 million a year, maybe even more, if they swung a trade for Parsons.

“I think people understand you have to balance how you commit your money. They were a last-place team a year ago with five wins. That doesn’t scream, ‘Go make that bold move to get that one guy to put you over the top.’ It simply doesn’t.”

Moreover, Briggs noted that the Bears have already swung for the fences and made a bold move in recent years when they traded for Khalil Mack.

While Mack recorded 36 sacks and earned three Pro Bowl selections, the Bears never won a Super Bowl during his four seasons in Chicago. As a result, Briggs notes that these blockbuster moves don’t always pan out.

“The timing wasn’t right for him,” Briggs added. “And really, you look at it when they pulled that move for Khalil Mack — he was fantastic in 2018, right? They had a really fun season that ended prematurely on the double doink, but they didn’t get the return from Mack after that 2018 season.”
