PHOENIX – The metro Phoenix forecast for Labor Day weekend calls for mostly dry conditions and temperatures in or above the normal range.

Highs are expected to range from 104 to 110 degrees through Monday. The mercury typically peaks at 104 degrees in Phoenix as August gives way to September.

There isn’t any rain in the Valley forecast until Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service. And even then, the chance is only 20%. However, the chance for showers and thunderstorms could increase after the holiday weekend.

Some commuters encountered popup showers early Friday, with parts of Phoenix and the East Valley getting splashed.

East Mesa received over 0.3 inches of precipitation in some spots, but the rainfall totals were under 0.1 inches in most of the areas that got wet.

Phoenix adds a smidge to monsoon season rainfall total

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings, registered 0.01 inches just before 3:30 a.m. That’s the lowest possible reading above trace amounts.

Phoenix needs every drop it can get as a relatively dry monsoon season enters its final weeks. Only 0.5 inches of rain has fallen at the airport since the annual “rainy” season began June 15, over an inch below the normal amount for late August.
