DJs, rejoice: there’s a new controller in town. RANE – the American pro audio and DJ equipment manufacturer – has announced the RANE ONE MKII, an updated successor to its popular RANE ONE controller from 2021. More than a simple facelift, the all-new RANE ONE MKII packs substantial upgrades across the board that range from UI enhancements to newly introduced, advanced stem tools – so much so the brand has boldly proclaimed its latest DJ controller “represents the evolution of what it means to be a professional DJ.”

Founded in 1981, the Washington-based brand has produced DJ equipment since the earliest days of DJ culture, weathering four decades of technological shifts and changing styles of music and mixing. The RANE ONE MKII marries modern tech with timeless technique, packing dual 7.2-inch motorized platters that deliver a true vinyl feel and plunger-style start/stop buttons that double down on tactility. Additionally, while the controller offers both low- and high-torque options, users can fine-tune this to their personal preference using the platters’ adjustable torque setting.

Further tactility can be found in the 16 performance pads RANE has packed into the ONE MKII. These highly responsive pads feature 10 different modes and one user-customizable mode that can be assigned to a variety of inputs, including controlling effects and manipulating stems, as well as RGB lighting that adds flair wherever you’re playing.

The RANE ONE MKII is also packed full of effects and audio manipulation features that allow DJs to craft a uniquely personal sound. Among these is an advanced, newly developed system for real-time stems control that the brands calls “groundbreaking” – it connects to RANE’s Serato DJ Pro software and allows DJs to “isolate tracks, manipulate instrumentals, and remix individual track elements” relatively easily, with dedicated instrumental buttons and “Instant Stem Acapella” that isolates a track’s individual elements with a single tap. The controller also features 29 newly created hardware-based effects, together with a dedicated display through which users can activate them.

RANE describes its new controller’s sound quality as being “studio-grade” and adds that “every mix sounds crisp and clear no matter the venue size.” Helping the ONE MKII achieve this is a 32-bit, floating point digital signal processor that works in harmony with the onboard 24-bit, 48 kHz digital audio convertor. The controller features a two-channel mixer with RANE’s well-regarded MagFour Crossfader, which the brand says was designed “for precision and durability” – even, it adds, for “the most demanding scratch or performance routines.”

Morgan Donoghue, the brand’s VP of marketing, says: “We’ve taken everything DJs love about authentic turntable control and enhanced it with the creative flexibility that modern crowds demand. The RANE ONE MKII empowers DJs to read the room and deliver exactly what every moment needs.”

Engineered in the United States, the new RANE ONE MKII promises to be a solid choice for both bedroom DJs and for those more advanced.

It’s available now worldwide priced at £1,349 GBP / $1,499 USD.
