A man was arrested and charged with the violent sexual assault of a woman who was jogging in Ventura.
The suspect was identified as Kevin Guerrero, 25, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
On Aug. 11, the victim was walking near Saratoga Avenue and Thille Street near Thille Park around 10 p.m. when a man suddenly called out to her.
She continued jogging away, but the man began following her before grabbing her and pulling her into nearby bushes. She attempted to yell for help, but he covered her mouth as he sexually assaulted her, police said. After several minutes, he fled the area on foot.
The victim returned home and reported the assault to Ventura police. At the time, she described the suspect as a tan-skinned man, who was around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall with a slim build and a possible stutter.
Following an investigation, detectives identified Guerrero as the suspect and on Aug. 20, he was located and taken into custody.
He was charged with forcible rape and kidnapping to commit another crime. He also faces several special allegations, including that the sex crimes were committed in aggravated circumstances, that he had a prior serious or violent felony and that he had served a prior prison term.
Guerrero remains in custody without bail. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Sept. 22. If convicted on all charges, he faces 85 years to life in state prison.
