Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was the talk of the tundra after a scintillating second half in 2023, and expectations were through the roof for the former first-round pick heading into 2024 as a result.

However, Love was actually pretty disappointing last year, throwing for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing 63.1 percent of his passes. Other than the picks, those numbers were all noticeably worse than the preceding campaign (although Love played in two less games last year), which had some worried about the 26-year-old.

Making matters worse was the fact that the Packers signed Love to a four-year, $220 million contract extension last July, so the early returns weren’t great (and Love’s deal doesn’t even kick in until this season).

John Kosko of Pro Football Focus named one issue for every quarterback in the NFL going into 2025, and for Love, Kosko identified his inaccuracy throwing down the field — specifically 10-plus yards — as his biggest problem.

“As expected, Love’s elite-level PFF grade in the second half of 2023 was unsustainable due to his high number of negative plays. He reined it in a bit in 2024 but ran into some issues with throws targeted 10 yards or more in the air,” Kosko wrote. “Love’s 41.3% uncatchable throw rate ranked sixth worst in the NFL — better than only three rookies, Anthony Richardson and an aging Aaron Rodgers coming off an Achilles injury.”

There is no question that Love has tremendous arm talent, but there is also no doubt that he has not exactly harnessed it just yet.

Fortunately, Love is still rather inexperienced under center and has plenty of room to grow. He also has an impressive cast of weapons at his disposal, and Green Bay added to its wide receiver room even more in the NFL Draft by selecting both Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

We’ll see if Love can ultimately enjoy the best year of his career to date this fall.
