The New York Knicks have already made a couple of intriguing additions this summer, signing both Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele in free agency. Could they take advantage of the Golden State Warriors’ current malaise to land another one?

Veteran guard Malcolm Brogdon remains available in free agency, and the Warriors are reportedly interested in the former Sixth Man of the Year. However, their situation with Jonathan Kuminga has complicated things.

NBA insider Jake Fischer has noted that Golden State’s contract standoff with Kuminga has resulted in an “uncomfortable wait” for Brogdon, who would definitely fit well in the Warriors’ high-octane offense.

But with the Dubs so preoccupied with Kuminga, the door could fling open for another team to swoop in and steal Brogdon, and Fischer has revealed that the Knicks could be the squad that does it.

Brogdon spent the 2024-25 campaign with the Washington Wizards, but he played in just 24 games due to injuries, something that has been a persistent problem for the 32-year-old throughout his NBA career.

He also struggled when he was on the floor last year, averaging 12.7 points, 4.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds over 23.5 minutes per game on 43.3/28.6/88.0 shooting splits. His field-goal and three-point percentages were well below his career averages, which indicates that Brogdon may be in decline.

Or perhaps the University of Virginia product simply needs a change of scenery after wasting away on one of the league’s worst teams last season.

Brogdon has played in a combined 63 games over the past two campaigns and has appeared in 60 contests just once since 2019-20, which is obviously worrisome. However, if New York is able to nab Brogdon on a cheap one-year deal, it would definitely eliminate some of those concerns (or at least make them more palatable).

The Atlanta native owns career averages of 15.3 points, 4.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game on 46.3/38.8/87.4 shooting splits.
