Summary

  • POTR and sakamotocommon have collaborated on a collection of graphic tote bags commemorating the work of composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.
  • The bags, which feature Sakamoto-inspired art, come with a special LP and are being released on August 30 in conjunction with a Ryuichi Sakamoto exhibition in Osaka.

POTR has unveiled a special collaboration with sakamotocommon to commemorate the work of Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. The release, which includes a range of graphic tote bags, coincides with the sakaomotocommon 1970/2025/OSAKA/RYUICHI SAKAMOTO exhibition at VS. (Bunka Souvenirs) in Umeda, Osaka.

The printed shoulder bag has been constructed to comfortably fit a 12-inch record and features Sakamoto-inspired artwork from designer GOO CHOKI PAR. Depicting the late artist mid-performance, the designs are printed in various layers and colors, resulting in four distinct styles.  According to a statement from POTR, “The graphic colorways are a futuristic blue/red, linking the eras of the two World Expos, 1970 and 2025, and a black/white, evoking the silence of sound.”

Each purchase will come with a complementary LP “Ryuichi Sakamoto: Playing the Baschet.” The special record represents Sakamoto’s re-enactment of the Baschet sound sculpture from the 1970 Osaka Expo, which he visited as a child. The LP makes the first unreleased recording to be released since his passing in 2023.

Famous for his striking musical scores used in films, by the end of his career, the artist had produced a diverse breadth of work that included solo piano, jazz, electro-funk, glitch, and ambient. At the end of 2024, the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo presented Ryuichi Sakamoto: seeing sound, hearing time, a landmark exhibition reviewing his most impactful works.

The Ryuichi Sakamoto x POTR collection will be released in-person on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the PORTER and at the forthcoming exhibition at at VS. (Bunka Souvenirs).
