Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims had 39 receptions for 503 yards with six touchdowns in 2024 in a promising season. However, the former Oklahoma Sooners star left practice on Wednesday due to a groin injury, according to Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Gazette.

After practice ended, Broncos head coach Sean Payton said he was not “overly concerned” with Mims’ exit, and Payton doubled down on that stance on Thursday, via Fredrickson.

“Good news. He’ll be back at practice … on Monday,” Payton said after Mimis was absent on Thursday.

That’s certainly good news for Denver, as Mims was the second-leading wide receiver behind Courtland Sutton, who just inked a four-year, $92 million contract extension.

With Week 1 on September 7, that should give Mims plenty of time to be ready to go for the opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Marvin Mims Aiming for Breakout 2025 Season

Mims was a second-round pick by the Broncos in the 2023 NFL draft. However, he had just 22 receptions for 377 yards with one score in his rookie season.

Mimis was also essentially a non-factor for much of the season, catching just seven passes in the first nine games.

But, the December 28 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals was a turning point for Mims. He caught eight passes on eight targets for 103 yards and a pair of scores.

Over the summer, Mims revealed how that game gave him confidence in his ability going forward with the Broncos.

“It was really big for me,” Mims said, via Jeff Legwold of ESPN. “It’s weird, but when you’re in college, guys make plays all the time, that’s how we all get here. But you get here [in the NFL] and those plays are much more difficult to be a part of consistently. I think that game alone maybe gave the coaches a different way to look at me.”

Payton also said in the summer that Mims was one player “competing for touches,” so having him healthy is important going forward.

Mims even lined up at the running back position in the middle of last season and had 13 carries for 42 yards.

Mims also had a pair of Pro Bowl nominations as a punt returner, and he led the league with an average of 15.7 yards per return in 2024, so there are a lot of ways the Broncos plan to use Mims going forward.
