Cole Sprouse, Penelope Ann Miller, Chris Parnell, Nelson Franklin, Riki Lindhome and Michael Learned have formed the ensemble cast for independent dramedy feature film Wake, directed by Devon M. Schwartz.

Wake follows four semi-estranged siblings who reunite for their father’s wake, only to clash with his overbearing side of the family in a tug-of-war over how to say goodbye. As oblivious guests and a death-phobic funeral director add to the chaos, they fumble into an absurd new reality – one that, maybe, just maybe, could bring them closer together.

Ali Gallo and Sasha Compère will also appear in the film, production on which has begun in Los Angeles. Schwartz co-wrote the screenplay with Kelly O’Malley (A Light in Dark Places), who both stars in and produces the film.

“Wake started as a way for me to make sense of the dichotomy surrounding my own grief,” says O’Malley. “The days following my dad’s suicide were incredibly dark—sprinkled with moments of levity and the absurd. We all experience death, and unfortunately, most of us know or will know someone who has died by suicide. This film is about breaking that silence, making space for grief, and finding connection through love and laughter.”

The film is also produced by Michel Rangel and Eugenio Villamar with Ale Fips serving as co-producer. Sprouse serves as executive producer. Casting was led by Amey René.

The independent production is supported by the California Film & Television Tax Credit Program. WAKE is slated for a festival run and release in 2026.

O’Malley is repped by Chrome Entertainment; Schwartz by Aqua Talent Agency and Chrome Entertainment; Sprouse by WME and Entertainment 360; Parnell by Buchwald and Rise Management; Miller by Innovative Artists Entertainment and Management Production Entertainment; Lindhome by WME and 3 Arts Entertainment; Franklin by CAA, Hansen, Jacobson, Teller and Artists First; Gallo by Innovative Artists Entertainment and Gang Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman; Compère by Buchwald and 3 Arts Entertainment; Learned by Pinnacle Theatrical Talent and Chrome Entertainment; and Villamar by Inclusion Management and CAA.
