In a viral TikTok, a dog owner from Los Angeles, California, shows her unusual every day morning routine to take her dachshund on a walk, and internet users can’t cope with it.

The hilarious clip, shared on Sunday by 28-year-old Mikaela Wild, under the username @mik.wild, shows the poster kneeling on the floor, making eye contact with her pup, as she tries to get him out of under the bed to go on a walk.

The pup is reluctant in the beginning, but then, after some cuddles with his owner, he agrees to put on his harness and go outside, though he doesn’t seem very excited about his exercise.

“POV [point of view]: you have an indoor dog,” reads layover text in the clip. The caption says: “So I pretty much have a cat.”

Wild told Newsweek that what’s happening in the clip, is her every day morning routine with her dog who just doesn’t really like going outside. It consists of having to coax him out from under the bed, put his harness on which is the “equivalent of corporal punishment to him,” and then he begrudgingly goes outside.

“The only time he moves with any urgency is when he knows we’re going back inside,” she said.

She added that dachshunds are known for having “big, unique, and quirky personalities” and Georgie is definitely hitting all the breed markers.

For young dachshund puppies structured exercise is not needed, says Dachshund Health UK, adding that free play in the garden is enough during early development.

Puppies need a lot of rest, so it’s important to let them sleep whenever they choose to. Once a puppy completes their vaccinations, you can introduce short walks (5–10 minutes every few days) to help them get used to people, traffic, and dogs.

As the puppy grows, gradually increase the walk time by about 5 minutes per month of age—by 6 months, 30 minutes per day is suitable, and by 12 months, 45–50 minutes of on-lead walking is appropriate.

However, the “5 minutes per month of age” rule only applies to formal, on-lead walking and doesn’t include off-lead play, where the puppy can self-regulate and rest when tired.

Over-exercising a growing puppy can damage developing joints, leading to poor posture, out-turned feet, and stringy muscle tone, especially in dogs meant for showing. Even non-show dogs benefit from this gradual approach to exercise.

Early socialization is essential, so outings and exposure to various people and environments are important. Ultimately, letting the puppy control her activity levels during free play and avoiding long, structured walks early on leads to better long-term health and fitness.

The video quickly went viral on TikTok and it has so far received over 523,700 views and 69,300 likes on the platform.

One user, Jaymee6284, commented: “He’s literally only doing this to make you happy.”

Another, Daw, said: “Mine pretends he can’t walk and then as soon as we turn around to go home, he runs. The sausages are insane.”
