A man was arrested for attempted murder after police say he intentionally ran over a pedestrian with his vehicle in Torrance.
On March 25, 2024, the suspect, Sergio Martinez Jr., was driving near the 18400 block of Elgar Avenue when police said he intentionally struck a pedestrian with his car.
Witnesses said that Martinez Jr. yelled “RIP” as he sped away from the scene. The victim survived the crash, but the suspect remained at large.
Following an investigation, on Aug. 22, 2025, authorities located Martinez Jr. in Inglewood where he was taken into custody.
He was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, including a $1 million warrant for attempted murder in Torrance, and an assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and possession of stolen property in Joshua Tree.
No further details, including the victim’s identity, were released. The case was submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
“The Torrance Police Department remains committed to ensuring the safety of our community and holding those accountable who engage in violent criminal activity,” the department said.
