Suns Would Land $180 Million Star in Blockbuster Trade Idea

The Phoenix Suns have already had an eventful offseason coming off their disappointing 2024-25 season.

Following the failed big three era with Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal, the team stripped down, keeping just Booker while sending Durant to Houston and letting Beal head to free agency after an expensive buyout.

The Suns are now Booker’s team again, but there’s a lack of help around him. At this point, the Suns are likely going to be fighting for a spot in the Play-In Tournament at best as the team appears headed for a semi-rebuild.

With that being said, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley proposed a trade in which the Suns could jumpstart that rebuild by adding some more picks.

In the trade, the Suns would send one of their key returns in the Durant trade with the Houston Rockets — young guard Jalen Green — for a player the Brooklyn Nets received in an offseason deal of their own. Here’s the full trade proposal:

“Brooklyn Nets receive: Jalen Green

“Phoenix Suns receive: Michael Porter Jr., a 2027 first-round pick (via NYK) and a 2032 first-round pick (via DEN).”

This trade would allow Booker to remain the team’s main ball-handler while adding a floor spacing forward that better fits alongside the four-time All-Star in Michael Porter Jr.

Porter Jr. was sent to the Nets in the Cameron Johnson trade with the Denver Nuggets, and is in the second-to-last year of his five-year, $179.3 million deal.

The Nets would get a “building block” for their organization to work around as they look to get out of constant mediocrity following their failed big three with Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

“While the Nets appear nowhere near seeking out an acceleration deal, at some point they’ll need to start collecting some building blocks,” Buckley wrote. “…Why not Green? At 23, he’s young enough to build around and is an explosive athlete with a clear bent for buckets. Like most parts of his game, his efficiency needs buffing, but the volume still impresses.

“…As for the Suns, they might wonder like the rest of us how a Green-Devin Booker backcourt will function and could imagine better balance with a bigger, better-shooting costar like Porter. Plus, this would deliver Phoenix real trade ammunition in the form of two unprotected future firsts, largely meant to cover for the difference in age, salary and injury history from Green to Porter.”

As the Suns look to retool around Booker — who signed an extension through the 2029-30 season — they would recoup some critical assets in the two first-round picks. As for Green, he’s entering the first year of a three-season, $105.33 million deal, one that likely doesn’t make much sense for a Phoenix team with Booker running the show on a much different timeline.
