Summary

  • New Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon debuts at Laguna Seca with full exposed carbon-fiber body
  • Skips paint, drops 13 pounds, features aligned carbon weave and black Brembo calipers
  • Interior finished in black leather, suede and Hyper Lime stitching; deliveries start October

Ford has taken the wraps off the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon, a striking new trim that strips away paint to reveal the race-bred carbon fiber construction beneath. Debuting at Laguna Seca Raceway, the Liquid Carbon treatment underscores how advanced materials shape both the performance and appearance of Ford’s most extreme Mustang.

Inspired by the Mustang GT3 race car, the Liquid Carbon’s exposed bodywork isn’t just for looks. By deleting paint and replacing door sheet metal with bonded carbon fiber, the model sheds about 13 pounds compared to a GTD Carbon Series equipped with the Performance package. “Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon is the ultimate expression of the Mustang GTD’s high-tech, high-performance construction,” said Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall.

Craftsmanship defines the exterior, with carbon weave patterns aligned across the hood, roof, deck and rear wing, presenting a seamless midline. Black Brembo calipers and gloss-black GTD script add to the menacing aesthetic, while the standard Performance package boosts track-ready capability. Inside, the cabin features black leather and Dinamica suede trimmed with Hyper Lime stitching, complemented by a reflective gradient detail on the seats for a purposeful yet bold finish.

“This is about high performance requiring high precision,” added Mustang GTD Design Manager Anthony Colard. Deliveries for the Mustang GTD Liquid Carbon begin in October, joining the Spirit of America, Carbon Series and standard GTD models in offering customers a tailored level of exposed carbon fiber.
