The Georgia Bulldogs enter the 2025 college football season ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll.

Despite having a squad that’s to be believed will be one of the teams battling for the national title, one person doesn’t see a deep playoff run that happening.

Georgia finished last season 11-3 and will be breaking in a new quarterback in Gunner Stockton. However, Josh Pate, who hosts “Josh Pate’s College Football Show,” isn’t buying the Bulldogs as the team to win the national title this season.

During his appearance on the “Up & Adams” show, Pate noted that Georgia hasn’t yet reached the standard the program expects.

“I watched them last year, and they could not run the ball to their standard,” Pate said. “They were in the 100s in every vital rushing statistic, okay? Relative to the Georgia standard, they were well off the pace defensively, and I expect them to be better in both of those compartments. I don’t know that they’re back to the Georgia standard.”

The questions that Pate has for the Bulldogs didn’t stop there, as he turned his attention to Stockton, who is taking over the starting job from Carson Beck after he transferred to join the Miami Hurricanes.

“Be difference makers up front defensively, because they did it sporadically last year,” Pate added. “They played Texas twice. They wrecked the front against Texas twice. But then Notre Dame handled them up front in a playoff game, and they’ll tell you that’s not supposed to happen to Georgia. And then, I don’t know that they’ve got a quarterback that can take over games.”

On September 13, the Bulldogs will take on the No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers, followed by a September 27 matchup against the No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide.

These games will allow Georgia to determine if they have a team that can perform in high-stakes situations.
