PHOENIX — Parts of the Valley were hit with wind and thunderstorms on Tuesday night, a day after Phoenix metro area faced destructive thunderstorms and a wall of dust.

The National Weather Service (NWS) for Phoenix initially issued a special weather statement for Avondale and Goodyear regarding 40 mph winds and possible pea-sized hail around 8:30 p.m.

The weather authority then expanded the statement to include Tolleson.

The weather activity seemed to increase as it made its way east across the Valley, as a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Tolleson. The warning told Arizonans in the area to beware of 60 mph winds and possible pea-sized hail.

NWS also sent out special weather statements for Glendale, Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe and Scottsdale. These ones regarded high winds but did not include a possibility of hail like the others.

According to Maricopa County’s Rainfall Data Interactive Map, rain appeared to mostly fall in the West Valley and north Phoenix.

The parts of the Valley that saw the most amount of rain as of around 10:30 p.m. were north Phoenix which saw 1.02 inches of rain and the area south of Estrella Village which received 0.91 inches of rain.

Were thunderstorms expected on Tuesday night?

Meteorologist Katherine Berislavich with NWS told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday morning that stray showers and storms could pop up around the Valley.

However, triple-digit temperatures were expected to return to Phoenix metro area starting Wednesday.

On Monday night the Valley was hit by storms that brought dust, thunder and rain.

The storms also left more than 40,000 people without power.
