PHOENIX — The Coconino National Forest will be reducing fire restrictions from stage 2 to stage 1, officials announced on Tuesday.
The reduction of fire restrictions will take place at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and is due to widespread precipitation across the forest’s three districts.
In addition, motorized closures around specific areas of the San Francisco Peaks, the Marshall Lake area and the Pumphouse Wash area will be lifted.
What do stage 1 fire restrictions prohibit in Coconino National Forest?
The stage 1 restrictions prohibit fires, campfires, charcoal, coal and wood stoves. However, they are allowed in developed recreation sites.
Smoking is also prohibited unless in an enclosed vehicle, building or developed recreation site.
Visitors are permitted to use a propane fueled device that can be turned on or off in areas that are barren or cleared of all overhead and have no flammable materials within three feet.
In addition, recreation shooting is allowed in the forest but target shooting regulations must be followed.
The year-round fire restrictions in the areas of Flagstaff, Sedona/Oak Creek Canyon, West Sedona and Pumphouse Wash will remain in effect.
The forest will continue to determine appropriate fire restrictions based on forest conditions and weather forecast.
