The San Francisco 49ers are hurting at wide receiver right now. Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL, Jauan Jennings is nursing a calf injury and Demarcus Robinson was recently tagged with a three-game suspension.
The 49ers also have some other injuries in their wide receiver room, which will make things nearly impossible for Brock Purdy in the early stages of the regular season.

San Francisco almost has to make a move at the position before Week 1, and Vic Tafur and Matt Barrows of The Athletic have linked the Niners to three potential additions following a wave of NFL roster cuts.
“Meanwhile, several interesting receivers — Trey Palmer, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and former 49er Dante Pettis — were among the cuts around the league on Tuesday,” Tafur and Barrows wrote.
Of course, Pettis spent the first two-and-a-half years of his career with the 49ers between 2018 and 2020 and flashed significant potential early. However, he has fallen off a cliff since and managed just 12 catches with the New Orleans Saints last season.
Palmer and Valdes-Scantling are definitely far more intriguing options. The former is just 24 years old and had a solid rookie campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023, catching 39 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns. However, his role diminished significantly last year.

Valdes-Scantling has bounced around quite a bit in recent years, but he has proven to be a legitimate deep threat and has plenty of big-game experience from his days with the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs. In fact, he helped the Chiefs win back-to-back Super Bowls.
At this point, San Francisco cannot afford to be that picky. The Niners simply need bodies in their wide receiver room, and they probably aren’t going to be adding any Pro Bowl-caliber players (unless they swing a trade for Jakobi Meyers). The 49ers may have to settle for someone like Palmer or Valdes-Scantling, and that’s perfectly fine until they start getting guys back on the field.
