MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — The City of Madison will have a new mayor in town as election night results point to City Councilwoman Ranae Bartlett winning the race.

According to unofficial results, Bartlett won 5,581 votes against her opponents, Steve Smith’s 2,620 votes and Margi Daly’s 966 votes.

First elected to the Madison City Council in 2020, Bartlett is a graduate of the University of Arkansas School of Law.  During her time on the council, she has served as council president, finance chair and council president pro tempore.

During the campaign, Bartlett said she would prioritize responsible planning as Madison continues to deal with what she called enormous growth.

Smith sent a statement congratulating Bartlett on her win:

“I want to sincerely congratulate Ranae Bartlett on her election as Mayor of Madison. This was a hard-fought race, and I have great respect for her commitment and dedication to our city. I wish her nothing but the best as she takes on this important role, and I encourage all of us to support her leadership as she works for the good of Madison.

To my supporters, volunteers, friends, and everyone who cast a vote for me—thank you. Your encouragement, your time, and your belief in me have meant more than I can ever express. Though we came up short in this race, I remain deeply grateful and humbled by the trust you placed in me.

Madison is a special community, and my hope is that we continue to come together, work together, and build together. I will always be committed to serving our city in any way I can, and I look forward to seeing the great things ahead under Mayor Bartlett’s leadership.

Steve Smith
