The Indianapolis Colts are an interesting team to watch heading into the 2025 NFL season. On paper, they have an extremely talented roster, but there are major questions about their quarterback situation.

Daniel Jones has been named the Week 1 starter by head coach Shane Steichen. Behind him, the Colts have Anthony Richardson, who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

During the offseason, Indianapolis went out and aggressive focused on the defensive side of the ball. Chris Ballard, the team’s general manager, signed star cornerback Charvarius Ward and star safety Camryn Bynum.

Just ahead of the regular season getting underway, the Colts have made a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. Bynum, who came from the Vikings in free agency, will now be reunited with cornerback Mekhi Blackmon.

Indianapolis announced that the trade had been completed in a post on X.

“We have acquired CB Mekhi Blackmon from the @Vikings in exchange for a 2026 6th round draft pick,” the post read.

Blackmon is heading into his third NFL season after being drafted by Minnesota with the No. 102 overall pick in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. His college career was played at Colorado and then his final season at USC.

During the 2023 season with the Vikings, Blackmon played in 15 games. He recorded 41 total tackles to go along with a fumble recovery, an interception, and eight defended passes. Last season, he didn’t play for Minnesota due to a torn ACL.

It’s possible that the Colts could be getting a steal with this trade. Originally, Blackmon was looking like a potential long-term fixture of the Vikings’ defense. An injury derailed that career trajectory.

Taking a chance on him by giving up a sixth-round pick is well worth the risk.

With roster cutdowns happening around the NFL, more trades seem likely. In another trade, the Cleveland Browns shipped quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Las Vegas Raiders. The roster movement is just getting started.

As for this trade, Indianapolis is hoping to get a key role player in Blackmon. He has shown the talent in the past and hopefully will be able to showcase it with the Colts.
