A former San Bernardino County school bus driver has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for possessing thousands of child sexual abuse materials.

A federal judge in Riverside handed down a 78-month sentence to Donal James Seaver, 51, of Hesperia. Seaver will also serve 20 years of supervised release following his prison term. A restitution hearing is scheduled for October 27.

Seaver pleaded guilty on April 28 to one count of possession of child pornography. Prosecutors said he knowingly downloaded more than 10,000 images and 13 videos of CSAM, including material depicting children younger than 12 years old.

In his plea agreement, Seaver admitted that he knew the files showed minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The material was located on four devices seized from his bedroom, including a Samsung tablet that had been frequently “wiped” or reset to delete data.

Seaver, a former bus driver for a private company, was responsible for driving 10 elementary school students with special needs. He has been in federal custody since his arrest in March 2024.

He was initially charged in state court before the federal case was filed.

The guilty plea followed a year of court proceedings. On March 28, 2025, the Justice Department announced federal charges against Seaver, detailing the search warrant executed at his Hesperia home earlier that month. Authorities seized devices containing the images and videos. At the time, Seaver was ordered jailed without bond and arraigned on April 16.

Documents show the Samsung tablet at the center of the case had been factory reset multiple times, with the most recent reset occurring on February 27, just days before his home was searched.
