Patients at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices in L.A.’s Porter Ranch neighborhood were rattled early Monday afternoon when the driver of a Jeep crashed into the facility’s waiting room.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the call regarding a car crashing into a building came in at 12:07 p.m. at the medical center located at 20000 Rinaldi Street.
A Los Angeles Police Department official confirmed that officers received reports of employees possibly being hurt; it was later verified by LAFD that one person suffered minor injuries.
The glass front of the building was shattered in the collision. Video posted to the Citizen App shows the vehicle had made its way completely inside the waiting room.
The driver of the Jeep remained at the scene, authorities said.
One patient said he was disappointed that the crash happened, as he was looking to have lab work done.
“My [appointment] has been cancelled,” the man said, adding that hospital staff informed him the facility would be shut down at least for the day. “They said ‘All appointments are canceled, nothing is open and all the staff is leaving’.”
What caused the Jeep’s driver to careen into the medical center is unclear.
According to the Kaiser Permanente website, the Porter Ranch Medical Offices offer services for primary care, ophthalmology, optometry, pediatrics, podiatry, vision and radiology. It also houses a laboratory and a pharmacy.
