With the WNBA playoffs just weeks away, the Liberty find themselves in an unfamiliar spot – out of a first-round home-court advantage seed, after a 5-9 streak slipped them down to No. 5. To make matters worse, New York is coming off their worst loss of the season, a shorthanded 78-62 loss to the Atlanta Dream. Kennedy Burke led the team in scoring off the bench with 13, while Jonquel Jones (11) and Emma Meesseman (10) added support.
While the Sun won’t have enough time to make the playoffs, they’re playing their best basketball, winning three in a row and four of their last five. Their most recent win was a 94-84 road victory over the Chicago Sky, with three different starters breaking the 20-point barrier, led by Tina Charles and Bria Hartley’s 23 points each. Marina Mabrey added 20 with eight assists and two steals in the win.
This will be the last meeting between the Sun and Liberty this season, with New York holding a 2-1 edge in the series.
