Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. Has Bold Red Sox Message After Power Outburst

The New York Yankees have been awful against the Boston Red Sox by their own lofty standards this season, but they saved some face on Sunday night.

New York lost the first three games of its series against arch-rival Boston over the weekend, and if it were to lose on Sunday night, the noise about the team’s fading World Series hopes would have been deafening. Instead, Chisholm broke out the big stick.

With a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, Chisholm gave the Yankees a 2-0 lead against Red Sox starter Dustin May. He added the exclamation point, another two-run shot, against reliever Walker Buehler in the eighth, salting away a 7-2 victory.

It was an emotional night for Chisholm, who was playing in memory of his best friend, who apparently died on Saturday. But the slugger also wanted to get one thing straight: He doesn’t fear this Red Sox team in the slightest.

“I always want to play Boston,” Chisholm said, per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. “I feel like the energy in the game, the way our fans come out, the way their fans come out, I feel like it’s a real intense game.

“Every game against Boston here has felt like a playoff game. So, for me, I know that’s exactly what we’re going to have, and we’re going to need to get ready for the playoffs and I know a lot of guys in here feel that, too.”

Chisholm now has three home runs against the Red Sox on the season, but he’s made a pair of errors as well, including a costly one on Thursday night in the Bronx, and he also struck out with the tying run on third base and one out in that same game.

Perhaps the other most memorable Chisholm-Red Sox moment this season came back in June, when he said he wanted “more trash talk in baseball!!!” on social media following Boston pitcher Hunter Dobbins expressing his distaste for the Yankees franchise.

There’s a very solid chance the Yankees and Red Sox will meet up for a best-of-three series to start the playoffs, so Chisholm is wise not to show any intimidation at the thought of another tussle with the division foe.
