Throughout the summer, one of the biggest ongoing storylines in the NFL was Terry McLaurin’s standoff with the Washington Commanders. Just before the regular season gets underway, the saga has finally reached its end.

Things got pretty messy between McLaurin and the Commanders, with the veteran wideout pulling out all the stops in an effort to land a new deal. He departed from mandatory minicamp, missed the opening days of training camp, and requested a trade out of Washington.

Despite how things transpired over the last few weeks, both sides can now put it all in the rearview. On Monday morning, reports emerged that McLaurin inked a three-year extension with the Commanders worth around $96 million.

NFL fans weigh in on Terry McLaurin signing extension with the Commanders

As expected, news of McLaurin’s extension sent shockwaves through the football world. It did not take long for fans to rush to social media to give their thoughts on the latest news.

After being out of the mix for so long now, Commanders fans are excited to see McLaurin remain in Washington for the foreseeable future.

“Big-time move — McLaurin back in business just in time for Week 1,” one fan said.

“SUPER BOWL IS BACK ON BOYS,” another fan said.

“TERRY IS BACK,” said one fan.

“Now let’s lock the f*** in and go win the Super Bowl,” said one fan.

“Cant really express how back I am in life now. TURN ME UP CAPTAIN,” one fan wrote on X.

McLaurin and his representation were patient throughout this process, and it worked out in their favor. There was a sizable gap in price throughout negotiations, but it was the Commanders who ended up budging. McLaurin now finds himself with a lucrative deal on par with some of his other top counterparts at his position.

The Commanders stated from the beginning that McLaurin is a valued member of the organization, and it shows. They ended up paying a hefty price to keep the veteran WR around for the next few years.

Washington showed good faith by giving McLaurin a deal in his desired price range. Now the pressure is on him to go out and prove that he was worth the investment.

McLaurin has a little less than two weeks to get himself ready for the 2025 season, as the Commanders open the year on September 7th against the New York Giants.
