LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — Gov. Kay Ivey announced grant funding will go towards a park in Lauderdale County.

The Lauderdale County Commission will use a $369,425 grant to provide upgrades at Brush Creek Park, an 89-acre recreational area on the Tennessee River near the Waterloo community.

The grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund will be used to improve the park’s recreational vehicle campground and other upgrades.

“These improvements will further enhance the outdoors experience of campers and other visitors to Brush Creek Park,” Gov. Ivey said. “I am thankful that the Lauderdale County Commission recognizes the need for and importance of public parks in our state, and I am pleased to announce this grant.”

Funds will be used to provide electrical hookups for the 18 RV pads in the western part of the park while also making additional electrical upgrades.

Additionally, the county is planning to add new playground equipment.

The Land and Water Conservation Fund is a program of the U.S. Department of the Interior. The LWCF program is administered in Alabama by the Department of Economic and Community Affairs.

“A well-maintained park is an attraction that can bring in tourists and create community pride,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in commending local leaders for their commitment to improving this recreational area.”

Danny Pettus, Chairman of the Lauderdale County Commission, was notified that the grant was approved by Gov. Kay Ivey. Lauderdale County will also match $369,425 for the project, that is required for the grant.
