Gunner Stockton is the new quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, taking over for Carson Beck, who transferred to the Miami Hurricanes. Entering his third season, Stockton will lead a Bulldogs team ranked No. 5 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll, with national title aspirations.
Stockton has featured in nine games in his first two seasons at Georgia, completing 68.7 percent of his passes while recording 588 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and two interceptions.
While there is a learning phase going from QB2 to QB1, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum has Stockton as the quarterback entering the 2025 college football season with the most questions. As a result, the junior is under fire to perform to show he can be the guy on a team challenging for an SEC title.
“It is Gunner Stockton at Georgia, and there has been a big narrative after he took over for Carson Beck late last year,” Finebaum said on “SportsCenter.” “He was not spectacular when he played against Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl, but some of that was his coaching on the sideline, but I’m just worried about him at this moment.

“He is well loved by his teammates, that’s what I hear from the team. But can he handle the moment? He won’t have one for a few weeks, but he will see Alabama at the end of September, and Alabama seems to have Georgia’s number lately.”
Stockton will have two winnable games against Marshall and Austin Peay to build positive momentum because after both of those contest come the true test for him.

On September 13, the Bulldogs will face the 24th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, and then on September 27, they’ll go up against the Alabama Crimson Tide, who are currently ranked No. 8 heading into the 2025 season. These two games will allow Georgia to see whether they have a quarterback who can rise to the occasion in these big-time matchups.
