Tommy Fleetwood had long been the PGA Tour’s most consistent professional without a win.
Since joining the Tour in 2017, Fleetwood racked up over $33 million in earnings, played in multiple Ryder Cup and posted 43 top-10 finishes. Yet, despite all the accolades, his first PGA Tour victory had remained just out of reach.
But that changed this weekend.
The Englishman held on and won the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta on Sunday to claim his first career PGA Tour title.
With $10 million on the line for the Tour Championship winner, Fleetwood’s calm, steady climb captured the attention of fans and some of the biggest names in sports.
On Sunday night, NBA legend LeBron James and WNBA star Caitlin Clark both took to X to cheer on Fleetwood.
“What a start so far by Fleetwood! Feels like today is the day,” LeBron typed on X.
While Clark expressed her emotions by posting, “This has to be Fleetwood’s day!”
Their support came just moments after Fleetwood drained a clutch birdie on the second hole, his first on that hole all week, boosting the excitement through East Lake and social media.

Time and again, Fleetwood had come heartbreakingly close, only to fall short by the slimmest of margins. Yet through it all, his humility and relentless drive have made him one of the Tour’s most beloved figures. Even after near-misses at the Travelers and FedEx St. Jude earlier this season, he’s never allowed disappointment to derail his focus.
“I love that I’m up there again,” Fleetwood told reporters after Saturday’s round. “It’s just another chance. Another opportunity. Another day where I get to go out and do what I love.”
Even world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who was among the pack of superstars Fleetwood held off at East Lake, acknowledged the significance of the player’s journey like Fleetwood.
“I would argue making the Tour Championship without winning a tournament is a pretty cool accomplishment,” Scheffler told reporters earlier this week. “You have to put together a really consistent, great season in order to qualify for the Tour Championship, especially without winning.”
