Shilo Sanders was not selected during the 2025 NFL Draft. However, it didn’t take long after the draft concluded before he signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Being the son of legendary NFL cornerback Deion Sanders has made Sanders a popular name. Despite that fact, the young defensive back was facing an uphill battle to make the Buccaneers’ final 53-man roster.

Now, the former Colorado standout has received some bad news about his NFL future

According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Tampa Bay has decided to waive Sanders. He has officially not made the roster and will look to land with another team before the start of the regular season.

It’s a tough break for Sanders. Unfortunately, he just didn’t do enough to make the team.

During the Buccaneers’ final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Sanders also made a crucial mistake. He threw a punch after being blocked by Bills’ tight end Zach Davidson and was immediately ejected from the game.

Following that mistake, Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles spoke out strongly about Sanders’ action.

“You can’t throw punches in this league,” Bowles said. “That’s inexcusable. They’re going to get you every time. Gotta grow from that.”

Now that Sanders has been waived, it will be interesting to see what happens in his next chapter. There are teams around the NFL who could use some help and depth at the safety position.

Perhaps Sanders will be able to latch on with one of those teams.

Sanders rounded out his college football career with a solid 2024 season with the Buffaloes. He totaled 67 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and two defended passes. There is no question that he can play a role in the NFL.

Hopefully, he is able to land in a good situation where he can develop. For now, his NFL career is on hold as he waits for another team to give him a chance.
