PRICEVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The Priceville Police Department arrested a man Sunday morning on drug charges.
On Aug. 24, at about 12:30 a.m., PPD, working on criminal interdiction, stopped a vehicle on I-65 near the 334-mile marker.
PPD said two adults and an eight-year-old were inside the vehicle.
After the traffic stop, officers said probable cause was established, which warranted a search of the vehicle.
During the search, officers found a quantity of a liquid synthetic opioid/fentanyl mixture, marijuana and a gun inside the vehicle.
Leshawn Demetrius Tate, 36, of Birmingham, was arrested and taken to the Morgan County Jail.
PPD said he is facing multiple charges, including trafficking in dangerous drugs, chemical endangerment of a child, second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana and tampering with physical evidence.
According to police, the child was released to a guardian, and a follow-up will be done with the Jefferson County Department of Human Resources.
The gun involved in this case was taken while a review of Tate’s criminal history was conducted. PPD said a potential charge regarding the possession of a firearm by a prohibited person may apply and be pursued.
At this time, Tate’s bond has not been set.
