Jaguars Linked to Trade That Would Puzzle Trevor Lawrence

The Jacksonville Jaguars struggled mightily last season, going just 4-13 thanks to a myriad of problems on both sides of the ball. To be painfully honest, Trevor Lawrence was one of the issues, as he was pedestrian in the 10 games he played.

Lawrence is now entering a pivotal campaign in 2025 in which he really needs to start living up to his lofty expectations. Not only was he considered a generational talent when the Jaguars took him No. 1 overall in 2022, but Jacksonville also handed him a $275 million contract extension last summer.

So, yeah: the way Lawrence has played the last couple of seasons is simply not going to cut it.

To their credit, the Jaguars have added some key pieces for Lawrence this offseason, trading up to draft Travis Hunter while also patching up the offensive line. And to be frank, Jacksonville is a heck of a lot more talented than its 2024 record would indicate.

However, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay is proposing that the Jaguars make a rather puzzling trade, suggesting that they move a sixth-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for running back Kimani Vidal.

“Rather than waste away as a third-stringer, the Bolts should instead allow him to get a fresh start and join a team desperate for RB help such as the Jaguars,” Kay wrote. “With Jacksonville having concerns across the board in its backfield, kicking over a sixth-rounder for an electrifying playmaker such as Vidal could salvage the situation.”

Do the Jaguars really have backfield concerns, though? Jacksonville seems pretty set at halfback with both Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby, not to mention rookie Bhayshul Tuten, who is quickly becoming a sleeper pick.

Vidal managed just 155 yards on 3.6 yards per carry last season, and if the Chargers really thought that highly of him, they wouldn’t have brought in a pair of rookie running backs in Omarion Hampton and Raheim Sanders while also signing Najee Harris in free agency.

The Jaguars would be better off banking on a potential breakout year from Bigsby while also hoping that Tuten enjoys a productive debut campaign. There really is no need for them to trade a draft pick — even a Day 3 selection — for another running back.
