Las Vegas Raiders Expected to Dump Former NFL TD Leader

The Las Vegas Raiders’ rushing attack was a major problem last season, with not a single Raiders running back eclipsing 500 yards on the ground.

Things are expected to be significantly better this time around, as Las Vegas selected Boise State phenom Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick of the NFL Draft, which should provide the Raiders with the featured back they desperately needed following Josh Jacobs’ departure last year.

But what about the rest of Las Vegas’ depth chart? Who will be getting carries behind Jeanty to give the offense some insurance?

Well, the Raiders added veteran halfback Raheem Mostert in free agency, two seasons after he led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns while racking up 1,012 yards en route to a Pro Bowl appearance with the Miami Dolphins.

However, Raiders insider Vincent Bonsignore does not anticipate that Mostert will even make the team, as he left the 33-year-old off the squad in his 53-man roster prediction.

“If you move Raheem down to the third running back role, I think that puts his roster spot in a little bit of peril, because there’s guys behind him, and Sincere McCormick and Dylan Laube, Dylan in particular, can play special teams,” Bonsignore said on the Vegas Nation First and 10 podcast.

Bonsignore expects Zamir White to be Las Vegas’ No. 2 running back thanks to his strong training camp and preseason. Meanwhile, McCormick impressed down the stretch last year, and Laube brings versatility that Mostert simply doesn’t.

It’s also important to note that Mostert’s production fell off a cliff in 2024. In 13 games with the Dolphins last season, he logged just 278 yards and a couple of scores on 3.3 yards per carry.

Considering the Raiders should be going with a youth movement, it definitely makes more sense to keep the younger halfbacks rather than Mostert, who may have difficulty finding a home if Las Vegas does release him.
