The Detroit Lions are just a couple of weeks away from kicking off their 2025 NFL season with a big showdown against the NFC North rival Green Bay Packers.
Last season, it looked like the Lions could be destined for the Super Bowl. They finished the 2024 campaign with a 15-2 record, which was the best in the NFL. Unfortunately, that success did not translate to the playoffs.
Despite such a magical season, Dan Campbell’s team fell victim to the Washington Commanders in their first playing outing.
After sitting all offseason with the pain of that loss, Detroit is ready to get back on the field. However, the question becomes, which players will survive from now until the 53-man roster is finalized?

Keeping that in mind, one Lions’ wide receiver has been brought up in trade speculation ahead of the 2025 season.
Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay has suggested a trade that would see Detroit send wideout Tim Patrick out of town in a deal with the Buffalo Bills. In exchange, the Lions would receive a 2026 seventh-round pick.
“While the 31-year-old has had injury issues of his own, he’s coming off a promising season with the Lions,” Kay wrote. “Patrick likely wouldn’t cost the cash-strapped Bills much, as Detroit has a logjam in the receiving corps and might be willing to move on from Patrick for cheap.”
Patrick currently looks to be a key part of the Detroit wide receiver. Trading him could create a dangerous whole on the depth chart.
Right now, Patrick is projected to be the Lions’ No. 3 wide receiver behind Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. It would be a bit surprising to see Detroit move him.
Last season with the Lions, Patrick played in 16 games and caught 33 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns. Back in 2023 with the Denver Broncos, he racked up 53 receptions for 734 yards and five scores.

If the right offer were made, it’s possible that Detroit could consider moving on from Patrick. But, that kind of a move could come back to bite the Lions.
While he’s a name worth keeping an eye on as a possible trade candidate, fans should not expect to see Detroit move him before the start of the season.
