Insta360 is on a roll. After unveiling its debut drone last week, the brand is back with another big announcement for something a little (read: a lot) smaller.

Less sky and more shirt pocket, the all-new Insta360 GO Ultra is a tiny but powerful device no larger than a smartwatch that the brand describes as an “evolution in the world of compact cameras.” Weighing just 53-grams, it packs a 1/1.28-inch sensor that’s 221% larger than its predecessor – which allows it to capture 4K super-crisp footage at 60fps – and features a 14.27mm equivalent lens with a F2.85 maximum aperture.

According to Insta360’s co-founder Max Richter, the GO Ultra builds on the advancements made across the brand’s wildly popular Ace and X camera lines, with an ultra-compact design that opens up “creative opportunities without sacrificing portability.”

The GO Ultra features a newly developed 5nm AI chip that Insta360 says delivers imaging of the highest quality – so high, in fact, the brand says it was “impossible” to achieve similar results with the previous the GO series. Together with the new larger sensor, the powerful 5nm processor helps to deliver smooth, ultra-crisp 4K footage at 60fps, as well as allowing users take full advantage of AI functionality built in to the device like PureVideo – a proprietary technology that helps to reduce visual noise and enhance brightness in low light environments.

Other features of the GO Ultra include a built-in magnetic base that’s compatible with multiple accessories and gives users several mounting options. Additionally, the tiny new device features a extra large battery that delivers 200 minutes of recording time at 1080p, or 170 minutes at 4K. It also includes both voice and gesture controls, and can be used like a point-and-shoot camera with a single button tap needed to instantly capture a scene.

The GO Ultra has a 2.5-inch articulating touchscreen display that flips upwards for ease of use – one that’s both large and bright enough to clearly display its 156° wide field of view throughout the day, even in sunlight. It’s also waterproof with an IPX8 rating, making it safe to submerge in in up to 33-feet (10-meters) of water.

Insta360 has made several accessories available on launch. These include the Action Pod, Magnetic Easy Clip, Magnetic Pendant, Sticky Tabs, AquaLens, Ring Remote and many more.

The GO Ultra is available now via the Insta360’s website. Pricing starts at £389 GBP / $449.99 for the “Standard Bundle”.
