MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WHNT) — Groups like the League of Women Voters are reaching out to voters ahead of Tuesday’s city vote. Whether it’s giving rides or guidance on how to vote, leaders want you to make your voice heard on Tuesday.

“A lot of those races are very tight,” said Kim Bailey, president of the League of Women Voters. “And some of them, it can come down to just a few votes.”

For the league, it’s important that Alabamians know who’s in those races. That’s why Bailey said they are holding candidate forums in cities statewide.

“There’s so many things that really, these local municipal elections impact,” she remarked. “And you know, people should pay attention because it — they can really influence their community that way.”

If you need a ride to the polls in your community, Lift Our Vote founder Jessica Fortune Barker said to reach out. Barker explained her organization will be hitting the streets to make sure people are making their voices heard.

“Lift Our Vote does everything that we can to make sure we are connecting communities with the information they need to be educated voters, as they head to the polls on voter day,” she said.

The Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice is also connecting communities by canvassing in neighborhoods. Jordan Stallworth, civic engagement coordinator for the ACIJ, said they’ve knocked on hundreds of doors in counties around the state.

“A lot of people don’t know when the elections are,” said Stallworth. “And, because it’s not a federal election, they think it’s not as important… who do you want representing you? Who do you want speaking for you? Who do you want speaking for your kids?”

That’s why Barker encourages everyone to double check their voter information, and what elections are happening in their city. “Make sure you go ahead and make your plan now to get out on Tuesday and exercise your right to vote,” she said.

If you do need a ride to the polls, you can visit Lift Our Vote here, or call 256-701-4182 to get connected with someone in your area of the state.

You can also visit the Secretary of State’s website to find your polling location, and more.
