The Golden State Warriors have been very quiet throughout the course of the NBA offseason thus far. A lot of their lack of activity has been due to the fact that their situation with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga still has not been figured out.
Kuminga remains a restricted free agent.
While the Warriors have shown interest in working out a new deal to keep him in town, Kuminga has not shown an interest in a new deal with the team. Other teams have shown interest in working out a sign-and-trade with Golden State, but the team hasn’t been very willing to do that either.
At least for right now, the Warriors and Kuminga are in a standoff. Golden State has been connected to quite a few free agents, including Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton, but can’t make moves until Kuminga’s situation is finalized.

With that being said, another name has been brought up as a player of interest to the Warriors as they navigate the Kuminga rumors.
According to a report from NBA insider Jake Fischer, veteran free agent forward Cody Martin is a name to watch for Golden State.
“Another name on the Warriors’ list of bench targets, sources say, is Cody Martin,” Fischer wrote. “The veteran swingman has received interest from numerous playoff teams this summer but is said to be waiting to see whether an opportunity with Golden State proves to be his most attractive option … or if it’s better to let the season start and see what opportunities arise after training camps begin.”
Martin is not a player that will turn heads. He’s a quality role player, but that’s about it.
During the 2024-25 NBA season split between the Charlotte Hornets and Phoenix Suns, Martin played in 53 games and made eight starts. He averaged 6.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, two assists, and 1.1 steals per game, while shooting 41.8 percent from the floor and 28.5 percent from three-point range.

Adding Martin would be all about depth. If the Warriors were to move on from Kuminga, he could end up filling a role off of the bench.
Expect to hear more about Golden State in the near future. Martin is worth keeping an eye on as a potential target for the Warriors to circle around to.
