Chelsea will make the trip across London for a showdown with West Ham on Friday as two capital city rivals square off for a derby, each seeking their first wins of the new campaign. Neither outfit managed to find the back of the net in their curtain-raiser and collide at the London Stadium, aiming to finally get off the mark.
The Blues travel west having dropped points following a 0-0 at home to Crystal Palace in an underwhelming opener after such a promising pre-season. Week 1 was even more of a disappointment for West Ham, however, after it fell 3-0 to Premier League newcomer Sunderland last Saturday.
Luckily for Enzo Maresca’s side, they’ve had the Hammers’ number of late and won the last three meetings between these teams. That includes a 3-0 victory at the London Stadium in September 2024 as they target a repeat of that result 11 months on.
The majority of squad concerns lie with Chelsea, who will be without central defenders Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile, as well as midfield linchpin Romeo Lavia. Mykhailo Mudryk also remains suspended while he awaits the outcome of his case, having been suspended for violating doping laws.
