Dolphins Encouraged to Pursue Trade for Veteran Defensive Back

The loss of cornerback Jalen Ramsey could be an extremely hard loss to overcome for the Miami Dolphins.

Miami did acquire star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick in the return for Ramsey, but the two just aren’t quite the same player.

That is why Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay has suggested the Dolphins propose a trade to the Baltimore Ravens for veteran defensive back Chidobe Awuzie.

“Chidobe Awuzie could be available after the Ravens managed to snag Jaire Alexander following his release from Green Bay,” Kay wrote. “Baltimore may prefer to keep the veteran as insurance and depth, but roster space will be tight after cuts are due and the offer of an early Day 3 pick could lead the club to move on from Awuzie.”

Awuzie is entering his ninth season in the NFL and is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. He appeared in less than 10 games for the second time in three seasons and had just 26 tackles, his second fewest in any season.

He did collect his first interception since the 2021 season and forced a fumble for the third consecutive season. For a Dolphins team that forced just eight fumbles all of last season, Awuzie would certainly be able to boost those numbers.

Jaire Alexander has forced a tight window on 31.9% of his targets since 2018, the 4th-highest rate in the NFL (min. 250 targets).Alexander joins a pair of Ravens CBs, Marlon Humphrey and Chidobe Awuzie, who also rank in the top five over that span.@Ravens | #RavensFlock https://t.co/OzNF9a6GdF pic.twitter.com/zzZx9kJ9LA

While he would not be expected to put up the type of production that Ramsey did, Awuzie would be a solid replacement and would bring a veteran leadership and mentality to the Miami defense alongside Fitzpatrick.
