Who died? Because these pictures of Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2 certainly looks like they are attending someone‘s funeral.
The photos, taken on August 20, show Hathaway and Tucci, wearing all black, walking arm-in-arm through the park. Naturally, they are both wearing dark sunglasses because their characters—Andy Sachs and Nigel—are both very high fashion people. And while high fashion people are also known for their fondness for black outfits, this black feels a little more funeral-black than everyday-black.
Hathaway wears an ankle-length silk dress with pleating around the bodice to give the dress shape, and a sheer overlay across the neckline. Her look also includes a thin, black raincoat over the dress, a black bag (it looks like she may have been switching between two bag options, based on the photos), and patent leather pointed toe mules.
Tucci looks sharp as ever at Hathaway’s side, wearing a well-fitted black suit with a starched white collared shirt. A suit doesn’t need much to dress it up, but Tucci’s look includes a black and silver paisley tie, which really contributes to the whole funeral-idea.
If these photos do show Andy and Nigel at a funeral, it would imply that the person who has died is someone they both know, possibly someone they both know from work. This couldn’t be the funeral of Miranda Priestley, could it? We certainly hope not. And it’s been nearly 20 years since the first The Devil Wears Prada, so Andy and Nigel could have made any number of mutual acquaintances in that time.
We’ve been pretty spoiled for Devil Wears Prada 2 set photos, to be honest. And this isn’t the first time some of the pictures have hinted at plot points of the upcoming movie. On August 14, Emily Blunt, as Emily, was photographed with a platinum blonde bob hairdo, which some folks have been taking as a hint to Emily’s character arc. Before that, Anne Hathaway was seemingly photographed filming a date scene in Brooklyn. The possible funeral scene is just one more piece of the puzzle.
