Summary

  • Los Angeles-based artist Cleon Peterson is teaming up with Avant Arte to release a new sculptural edition, titled “Shame”
  • The artwork will be available starting September 17 as a time-limited release via Avant Arte

Cleon Peterson has built a career off his exploration of society’s often unsavory underbelly. Sex, corruption and the struggle for power take shape in scenes of unrest and clashes of monochromatic figures. In his latest sculptural edition with Avant Arte, the Los Angeles shifts his flat, graphic silhouettes into new gears, giving weight and permanence to this vision of conflict.

Titled “Shame,” the resin-cast sculpture depicts a bowed figure, head in hands, grip tight on a sword pressed into the ground. Rendered in matte black, it’s a posture thick with contra diction, gesturing toward enduring struggle between internal and external influence. As this tension mounts, however, Shame” also embodies an opportunity for redemption.

“Within this feeling of shame lives the potential for transformation, looming between redemption and suffering,” the artist noted upon the release. “‘Shame’ acts as a catalyst, defining, our internal morality, and we move on to a place of change or destruction.”

Measuring at 10.04 x 9.61 x 5.79 inches, the “Shame” sculpture will be available exclusively via Avant Arte for 48 hours only starting September 17 at 11:00 CDT.
