Jason Momoa and David Leitch are coming on to produce The Pirate, from writer Will Dunn, whose hot spec script was just acquired by Amazon MGM Studios, Deadline has confirmed. Leitch and Kelly McCormick are in negotiations to produce under their 87North banner, while Momoa is in negotiations to produce under his On the Roam banner. If deals close, the project would be developed as a potential starring vehicle for Momoa.

Plot details are vague other then it being described as The Raid set on a pirate ship

Momoa recently starred in WB’s hit Minecraft movie, and he can currently be seen in the Apple TV+ series Chief of War. He’s set to reprise his role as Duncan Idaho (sort of) in WB/Legendary’s Dune: Part Three, and he’ll soon begin filming Legendary’s Street Fighter movie.

Leitch recently produced Nobody 2, which is now playing in theaters, and he’s currently directing the action-thriller How to Rob a Bank for Amazon MGM. Dunn served as a writer on Ms. Marvel. He’s represented by Verve and Think Tank Management, while Leitch is repped by CAA, and Momoa is repped by WME. The news was first reported by the InSneider Newsletter.
