AUBURN, Ala. (WHNT) — Auburn University announced Tuesday that it will claim seven more national titles and a few more conference titles to its collection.

With this, the University will now claim nine national championships and 15 conference titles.

On3 reported that its team reached out to Athletic Director John Cohen for an explanation of the school’s decision. Cohen provided the following statement:

“For too long, Auburn has chosen a humble approach to our program’s storied history – choosing to recognize only Associated Press National Championships. Starting this fall, we have made the decision to honor the accomplishments of our deserving student-athletes, coaches, and teams from Auburn’s proud history. Our visible National Championship recognitions now align with the well-established standard used by the NCAA’s official record book and our peers across the nation.”

Before claiming the additional titles, the University only had two AP national titles recognized: 1957 and 2010. 1913, 1983 and 1993 were titles that were quietly recognized inside the team’s media guide.

The new titles recognized are 1910,1914, 1958 and 2004, bringing the total up to nine.

On3 also reported that the University is updating its conference title count to 15, reclaiming three titles from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association era: 1904, 1908, 1910, 1913, 1914, 1919, 1932, 1957, 1983, 1987, 1988, 1989, 2004, 2010 and 2013.

Auburn Football even updated its X account, formerly known as Twitter, to reflect this change.
