MS NOW’s Jen Psaki stupefied by House Republicans’ extreme hooky campaign: ‘A shame’

The Republican-led House of Representatives is skipping town again — shutting down all business until the midterms. And MS NOW’s Jen Psaki drew attention to the likely reason they are doing it.

“There have been 185 weekdays since this year began,” said Psaki. “And of those 185 weekdays, the House of Representatives has been on the job for a whopping 71 days.” In other words, she said, “That is less than 40 percent of the days that you and I and everybody else have been expected to show up for work this year.”

Even in spite of that, she said, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) “has decided to just send everyone home early. He canceled all the remaining votes for this week.”

As for why that is happening, she said, “Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has a pretty solid theory on that.” She rolled the clip of him raging on the House floor.

“So why did he just cut another day off the calendar?” said Massie. “He had some more choice words for me because I predicted this as well. On Tuesday, as a fully participating member of Congress, I introduced eight articles of impeachment against Peter Brian Hegseth.”

Those articles against Trump’s Secretary of Defense, said Psaki, “accus[e] him of subverting the Constitution and abusing his powers as secretary of defense. So if the Republican-led House had stuck around through the end of the week like they had planned, they would have been forced to vote on those articles of impeachment. But I guess they’d rather skip town than be on the record defending Pete Hegseth right now.”

“Can’t really blame them,” she continued. Nonetheless, “It’s kind of a shame for a number of reasons, including the fact that Congressman Massie made a very compelling case for impeachment today.”

“Over there, they’re leading a little fantasy,” said Massie in the clip. “They call it the Department of War. You know, you can’t rename things without Congress. Hell, you can’t even rename a post office without us. You think you can rename the Department of Defense, the Department of War? Give me a break, but enjoy your little fantasy. If you’re looking over at the administrative branch and trying to give an award for the person who’s racked up the most illegal and unconstitutional acts, there’s one clear winner. It’s Peter Brian Hegseth.”

“So Republicans in Congress would rather skip town than have to answer for Peter Brian Hegseth,” Psaki concluded, adding, “I do just love how Massie used his full name there, like a parent scolding a child.”
