Prince Harry secretly paid tribute to his late grandfather Prince Philip on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly had a friend place a wreath of poppies and a letter at the Burma Star Memorial in Staffordshire, England, on Aug. 15, per British media outlet GB News.
The drop-off allegedly happened after his estranged father, King Charles III, stepmom Queen Camilla and members of the media had left the event, which honored the fallen veterans who served in World War II.
In the letter, which began with Harry’s “H” letterhead, the dad of two praised the service members of the “Forgotten Army” whose “courage and endurance in the Far East campaign were anything but forgettable.”
Harry, 40, then wrote a personal message to Philip, who died in April 2021 at the age of 99.
“For me, this anniversary carries an added layer of meaning. My late grandfather, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, served in the Pacific campaign,” he penned.
“He spoke with quiet humility about those years, but I know how deeply he respected all who stood beside him in that theatre of war,” the “Spare” author added.
“Today, as I think of him, I think also of each of you, of the shared hardships, the bonds forged, and the legacy you leave.”
Harry concluded his letter, writing, “I am humbled by your example, proud of your service and dedication, and profoundly grateful for what you endured. Your story is part of our shared heritage, and it must never be forgotten.”
In 2020, the Invictus Games founder — who served in the British Army for 10 years and did two tours in Afghanistan — was denied permission to leave a wreath at the official memorial on Remembrance Sunday amid his estrangement from the royal family.
Earlier that year, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, had quit their royal duties and relocated to California. They then accused the royals of racism, bullying, denial of mental health help and taking part in a smear campaign.
Last week, Harry’s estranged brother and his sister-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton, also paid tribute to those who served in honor of the 80th anniversary of VJ Day.
“Today, on the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of all who served. Today we especially think of those British and Commonwealth troops who fought in the Asia-Pacific,” the Waleses, both 43, wrote on X.
“We owe an enduring debt to the generation who gave so much, and to whom we will always be grateful.”
