Ketel Marte Blockbuster? Tigers Suggested As Suitor For All-Star

Over the last few days, the Arizona Diamondbacks have been involved in a lot of shocking trade rumors surrounding their star second baseman, Ketel Marte.

Marte’s name is being connected to offseason trades that could change the landscape of baseball, following some reported drama that has seemingly happened behind closed doors.

FanSided’s Christopher Kline recently suggested the Diamondbacks could trade Marte to the loaded Detroit Tigers in a blockbuster deal this offseason, if Arizona is foolish enough to part ways with its star.

“But we have seen the Tigers slowly attempt to branch out and assert their presence in the AL landscape,” Kline wrote. “Alex Bregman was almost a Tiger last offseason, at a price point far higher than Marte’s $15-22 million annually over the next five years. Detroit has an excellent farm system, chock full of middle infielders for Arizona to tab as Marte’s replacement.

“Bryce Rainer (No. 4), Hao-Yu Lee (No. 7), and Max Anderson (No. 9) are all of significant talent and could be on the MLB roster within a couple years. The Tigers need a huge bat in the middle of the lineup to really level up. Marte fits the bill, and he’s on a great contract value-wise, even if age (and apparently “rest”) are concerns long, long term.”

The Tigers would make a lot of sense as a landing spot for Marte.

Last offseason, they showed the willingness to chase the big fish in free agency, so acquiring Marte on his salary doesn’t seem like an issue.

Detroit also has a loaded farm system, so putting together the prospect package to acquire the All-Star second baseman wouldn’t be that difficult for the Tigers to do.
