In an alternate universe, Queen Charlotte star Corey Mylchreest logged both king and prince in his resumé.
Speaking to Seventeen Magazine recently, the YA actor revealed he once gave, in his words, a less than stellar audition for Disney‘s live-action Tangled. Mylchreest was up for the role of the dashing Flynn Rider, a part that requires singing given the musical nature of the source material.
“I think I can say this now because I don’t think it’s happening anymore, but I auditioned for Tangled,” Mylchreest began.
When his My Oxford Year co-star Sofia Carson questioned if he sang for the part, the actor sheepishly nodded. “See? I’ve been saying for a year that he sings,” Carson said. “And he says that he doesn’t.”
After Carson asked to see the tryout, the Bridgerton alum joked, “We don’t have the footage anymore. I deleted it and then I burnt it and then I burnt the phone that I filmed on. And then I burnt the room that I did it in. And then I burnt myself.”
“No, it wasn’t very good,” Mylchreest concluded. “They then told me that they wanted someone with singing experience.”
The actor then joked he was “born to play” the role, agreeing with Carson that he had “Flynn Rider hair,” and the reason the project got scrapped was because he wasn’t available.
All jokes aside, however, Disney announced back in April that it would be pausing its live-action adaptation of the beloved 2010 animated movie — based on the famed Brothers Grimm fairytale Rapunzel — following the dismal performance of Snow White at the box office. The remake was previously in development under helmer Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman). At the time of the delay, the project was in the pre-production stages as it had begun setting meetings with potential talent to star.
