The termination of a pursuit caused all traffic to be stopped on the 405 Freeway on Sunday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were originally dispatched on a call regarding a man with a gun. A location was not provided.
Responding officers eventually initiated a short pursuit, LAPD said, and the suspect stopped on the southbound side of the freeway near the 101 Freeway interchange, preliminary information indicates. A California Highway Patrol spokesperson confirmed to KTLA that LAPD requested a full closure of the northbound and southbound lanes of the 405 at Burbank Boulevard due to the end of a pursuit at 11:22 a.m.
CHP officials later confirmed on social media that officers had closed the freeway due to a possibly armed driver who had barricaded themself inside their vehicle.
Eventually, the suspect was taken into custody. The charges he is facing, if any, weren’t known right away, and he was not identified.
Video from the Citizen App shows traffic stopped on the freeway, with some motorists turning around while others got out of their cars and stood on the road. One angle appears to show police officers surrounding a sedan that had crashed into the center median.
The northbound lanes of the freeway were opened relatively quickly after the pursuit ended, but CHP said the southbound lanes were closed for a little while longer. A reason for this was not provided.
It was announced that all lanes were opened shortly after 1 p.m.
